It's from that weird time in gaming history during the early 2000's where game developers thought "no one will every want to play this in a window, fullscreen all the way baby" That's it, my only complaint, there is no windowed mode, but 'tis a big one, as I'm confined to a laptop with no second monitor for the next forseeable future, and I need to be able to do other stuff during the day. Civ I (DosBox), II (Test of Time patched), IV (GoG) and V (steam) all have proper "windowed-mode" options While you can hack this into a "not totally fullscreen" mode, you can't move or minimize the windows I know this probably isn't something GoG can or would fix, it's not built into the game, it was a feature of the previous game but was deliberately removed for this game by its developers, which strikes me as "odd" for lack of a more polite term
This is hot garbage compared to the original game... they fundamentally changed it. It's so much brighter now (no it's not my monitor, I compared it to my og copy and it's just all around brighter). I don't even need to use the flashlight... which is no longer a melee weapon which has to be held. Now you can have a gun, and your flashlight out at the same time... this is a fundamental change to the game play mechanics that I think is for the worse. It makes it like every other Halo clone out there. What made the original best imo was the dark atmosphere and the fact that you had to choose between seeing what's in front of you, and shooting it. "Playing it safe" and shooting blindly was healthy, but costly, where as having your light out can help nail down where they are, at the cost of time, which this version basically removes Also every time the auto-save kicks off it halts everything for a good 1-2 seconds, which did not happen in the original. The shadows look weird on the characters ears too.. again.. this does not happen in the OG version Save your money folks, go use DHEWM3 with your original versions for all the resolution fixes you could ask for
But only the LT and RT, which open the inventory. This means I cannot use a keyboard mapper (which is, long story short, the only way I can play anything right now) I attempted to contact support, the robot made me fill submit a DxDiag report (which, by the way, is a .txt file and their robot does not accept .txt files, only .docx, .pdf, .jpg and literally anything except .txt) After spending 15 minutes answering the questions, the robot asks "did you install via GOG galaxy"? No, of course not, if I wanted a platform I'd buy it on Steam. I come to GOG for the offline backup installers. "Sorry, couldn't create your ticket" So now I'm getting a refund Game looks fun though, guess I'll just have to pick up the PS2 version somewhere
This game is amazing, but this particular version (as well as any disk/retail version) are no longer supported by the most popular mods. While the base game runs fine, I attempted 3 separate mods all of which I'd played before on another version. Republic at War, Thrawn's Revenge, and EAW: Remake. Republic At War's current version is 1.2.5, but the only one available for the GOG/retail versions are 1.2.1. It may not seem like much but it's a SUBSTANTIAL difference in features and gameplay Thrawn's Revenge wasn't even available, only it's predecessor, Imperial Civil War, and while it ran fine the mod developers warn of a save corruption bug after a short amount of time. I was not able to load a test save, it crashed to desktop. EAW: Remake ran fine but would not load any save files, the developer noted this in the retail/GOG version. The crash to desktop happened again with this mod as well. While I still purchased it and will not get a refund because I love the base game, be aware that the mod community no longer supports the retail/GOG/DRM-free versions Upon further research, it seems this version may not receive any patches in the future. Look up "petroglyph eaw patch" on a search engine for more details
It seems there's a recent issue with people being unable to hear the car engine sounds/tire screeching sounds. I am one of those people. It seems some people are able to fix this by running VLC Media Player in the background. I am not one of those lucky people. I have run the game in compatibility mode, run as admin, tried both Steam and GOGs version, uninstalled, reinstalled, tried it on my EVGA/Intel PC, then on my ATI/AMD PC, and both have the exact same issue I feel like I'm losing my marbles here, does anyone know how to get the car sounds working on Windows 10?
