Troika was forced to release Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines in an almost unplayable state. The game, built with Valve's engine, was an incredibly immersive experience but Troika's grasp exceeded their reach. After Troika closed down a few independents went out of their way to try and eliminate the bugs. Wesp5, one of several of these independents, built the Unofficial Patch and restored content that the developers had to cut because of its early release. It's considered by some to be the definitive version of the game and is easily one of the reasons VTM:B has such a cult following to this day.
Quest for Glory is possibly the best series to come out of Sierra. It's an amazing RPG for its time with a compelling story that takes you from the cold mountains of Spielburg to the hot deserts of Shapier and beyond. I could not recommend this game, with open ended puzzle solving and an amazing soundtrack, any higher.
It's like someone took a blender and tossed in aspects of the most popular shooters of recent times; it works, in a "nice" way. The game never really stretches for anything that could make it unpopular. It's not bad, and I'd even go so far as to say it's worth a go, but there were other games, some older, that do specific things better. You'll find yourself wondering why such an atmospheric game tastes bland-- the reason, ultimately, is you'll feel like someone else has done it. If taken only by itself, with no comparison, the game is written well, compelling dialogue, and a fun shooter just because reasons.
There are few titles that define an entire genre of games as well as Pirates! Gold-- that having been said it's aged surprisingly well against its remake Sid Meier's Pirates! It's fairly easy to sit down to it for an hour or two, walk away, and want to fall in love with it all over again. Plus, in this version, you get to marry the merchant's daughter and live without being forced to dance for the game's amusement!
