I like the game so far and I think this ambitious studio will make big improvements to the game over time. It is very different from many games, but that’s kind of refreshing. Am I going to say all games should be procedurally generated? No. Handcrafted levels/scenes will always have their place. In many game it’s the characters or story that make the game, but this game has a different feel. It is about knowing there’s an endless universe to explore and that you might be the first and only person to ever land some planets. Some planets are duds, but that’s kind of realistic and it doesn’t take too much to find another livelier planet. Also, it makes you feel more inside the space that you can fly far out from space and fly all the way in to land on the surface of the planets. If they don’t exist already, I hope they add some land vehicles/hover craft to the game as switching vehicles like that would be a cool way to traverse the planet surfaces. I had to lower some graphics settings like aliasing all the way down, but on a triple monitor setup at 5760x1080 on a GTX 970 I can run at 30fps solid. (Hopefully they set a way to center the hud instead of stretching it out) If I set it to 1080p instead it can do 60fps pretty consistently. Some will find the game boring and others will call that relaxing. I really lose track of time when I’m in the universe right now, thinking just one more planet before I stop. Perhaps it will get redundant faster than I’d like, but it’s too early to tell. I’ve tried Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen, but although space action is typically more my thing, I’m surprised to say that neither of those has grabbed my attention the way this one has.
