This is THE classic adventure game. If you had to play only one adventure game, this should be it. If you had to play only two, Monkey Island 2 should be the second one. There were many adventure games before Monkey Island and there are many after it, but this is where, in the words of it's creator Ron Gilbert, he "learned what an adventure game really is". And the players learned with him. Monkey Island invented so many genre tropes that is almost impossible to find an adventure game that doesn't draw something from it. Even compared to Monkey Island 2, this one has something over it, the sort of simplicity that makes it so accessible. The remake is somewhat flawed as stated in other reviews. It was obviously done in a hurry on a tight budget. Monkey 2 SE is much more carefully crafted game. But you can switch between original and new graphics during the game, so nothing prevents you to enjoy the game as it was originally intended. And GOG, could you please find the means to include the first version of Monkey Island in this package, like you did with Sierra adventures? The first version of the game which had EGA graphics and PC speaker sounds. It would be nice just for historical value of the package. In any case, Monkey Island is the undisputed classic and no game library should be without it. -------- PS: You all fight like dairy farmers.
