I've played this game back in the day on my C64. https://c64g.com/games/crusade-in-europe I recognized it from the graphics. The game may or may not be good, but it's a freaking c64 game, from the freaking 80s. How dare you sell it for 5€, wrapped in an emulator!
🔍The anonymous statistics can be turned off at any time from the options of the game -> the MISC tab - GOG Team All sorts of telemetry is collected without consent or ability to be turned off. When I buy software, a game especially I expect NOT TO BE SPIED UPON.
I bought it on the epic store when it came out. Bought the 80€ package... The disappointment is hard to describe. The developer claims he worked on xcom. Yeah? As what? Water carrier? There is so much wrong with this game. Starting with the mission load screen. It's not actually a loading screen, like in xcom. It's just there to annoy you, to show you that you have flown to the mission. But you have to load the loading screen. They probably said, "let's take xcom and try to make a clone". But it's a bad clone. The whole setting is bad. A virus mutated the population blah zzzz. And now you have to decide to side with one of 3 bland and generic factions or none at all. 3D combat. In theory great, in praxis poorly executed. Combat is monotone. Character development is boring. It gets hard fast. Mind controlling pods that explode into those little "mind controlling face masks" you know from the movie Alien, only they control minds of the crew they jump on. Suddenly there's 20 of them and all your crew is being controlled next round. WTF? There is 0 innovation. Awful UI too. The main problems are the game isn't really telling a story or the story is so uninteresting that it doesn't draw you in at all. Ok story but combat is bad too. There's nothing in this game I haven't seen before elsewhere. But even those copied components are not well aligned. Imagine a dish where the cook tries to copy the original dish and fails to even copy that dish properly. That is this game. Just no. It's not even worth the 50% reduced price at of 25€ at the time of this writing. No replayability either, except if you count unlocking the other faction you didn't side with originally features as replay worthy.
I made a new character, went through the 1st intro mission, got to the next mission to the next floor where I was facing a.. boss type enemy and the game crashed. I'm aware it's "in development" but it's the year 2020 now and it had been in development for 4 years. For being a version 0.485a I expected more. The theory is great, improve skills on use but also have levels for attribute points. The graphics are mood enhancing. It feels like "I want to see more" but I also got bored a bit already. I'm not sure if it's possible to refund this unfinished game, but I'll try. The controls feel not smooth. The UI's graphics could be improved for more atmosphere. Targetting enemies is a big weird, you have to circle the camera at times to not aim at something else. Hitting different body parts doesn't seem to make a difference and torso has the highest hit chance. That feature probably isn't implemented yet. However seeing that it's in its 4th year now and the state of the game right now, it will take at least another 3 to turn this into something good as opposed as something that has potential right now but lacks stability and polish, and ofc it isn't finished yet. 2 stars because goddammit if they're asking money for this, it better at least be playable without crashing 30 minutes into the game. My wallet is not a welfare office.
