It really isn't a bad game, but I don't like it. Perhaps I am playing it wrong but that's how I feel one should play this game. I went for the missions one after another which combined with the random loot and survival aspect of the game meant I was really struggling even with the first main mission because I didn't grind beforehand. If a person can ignore the missions and play the game as Terarria until he/she is prepared than I think this game might be pretty enjoyable experience.
I was not expecting the game to be that challenging. Judging by it's aesthetic I had formulated the opinion that this game would be something like Never Alone in regards to it's difficulty level and depth. I guess I also ignored every single review of the game that mentioned it's actually a metroid-vania game. The game is as beautiful as it looks on all the promotional materials. Movement is slick and satisfying. Opponent variety is a bit lacking though. The only reason I am giving the game 4 instead of 5 stars is the fact that there are difficulty spikes, one very famous such spike is the escape from Ginso tree. Coincidently, the area right after that had me stuck for unnaturally long time because I had to use a mechanic from the very beginning of the game that I though I would not use again, so I had forgotten it. So it's a strong recommend but keep in mind it's not a piece of cake.
This is a walking simulator but it's totally worth the asking price and here is why in my honest opinion: 1. It's amazing to look at. Basically at any point you can make a screenshot and be content with it as your desktop background. 2. It has an interesting story that kept me interested till the very end. I also have to add, that while many people expressed their disappointment with the ending of the game I actually liked it and it made me like the story even more. 3. I don't know if this is spoiler or not, but I assume "not" at this point of the game life: Two very well written characters with almost life like dialog between them. A few exceptions now and then. 4. Good design of the play area/map. I would advice anyone playing the game for the first time to mostly stay on the path the game narrative suggests to them. There is time to go everywhere and there is no reason to go off exploring on your own (unless you want screen shots). Things that you might want to know going in this game: 1. It's short and not really replayable. 2. It's more or less about a relationship between two people. 3. Climbing up/down animations get annoying after a while.
