Ghostrunner

the blade has only a few rough edges

fast paced and unforgiving, this game doesn't hold your hand but rather invites you to meet the challenge. good graphics, runs well. controls are solid, mouse recommended. not too long, if you only want to play the normal mode. you can run even the gog version in linux through steams proton. the story is kind of meh. i always feel that when it comes to the story, games should try to explain less. if you're a bland writer: less exposition, leave things to the imagination. hint at something and let the audience make it alive inside their heads. anyway, it's average stuff, definitely not terrible. the developers mistake: i deduct one star, because of the annoyance of the checkpoint being reset when you quit the game. you can try the same checkpoint a million times, but if you quit the game, you'll have to restart the entire level. it doesn't matter too much on the first play-through, but on hardcore it gets irritating as progress is more difficult and you'd rather take a brake without leaving the game on. in this game, "continue" means "restart last level". it's a clear oversight on their part, there really is no excuse for it. first i thought i could keep playing after completion as i enjoy the extra challenge of the hardcore mode, but i'm not going to replay the entire level each time i start the game. what is this, the 80s? i guess i could run it on a virtual machine and suspend it to be able to continue.. OR maybe the devs should fix their game.

art of rally

suprisingly in-depth racing

turn all the assists off and this is fun. there is only one downside from my perspective. if you're familiar with racing games, you'll have to get used to one peculiar thing about this game: sideways friction of your tires is virtually non-existent (the dev. has a thing for drifting). braking and accelerating have their friction just fine, it's just that going sideways doesn't slow you down like it should even on tarmac. everything feels a bit like ice in that respect. the way you slow down a rally car on gravel in most simulators is not to brake heavy but throw the car sideways. here it won't work; you'll have to brake more into corners. other than that, the handling feels like you're driving a car and it's really fun.

Shadow Warrior 2

Well Worth your Wang

I was torn because different people had different opinions on this (totalbiscuit didn't like this), but after taking the plunge I have to say this game is the ****. The combat is fun and it makes you feel awesome dodging and slashing enemies to bloody pieces. The Good: - awesome combat - great variety of guns - funny main character - runs very well on a mediocre system - the price The bad: - NPC cutscene model quality and lipsync leave something to be desired and my biggest gripe: - the inventory management is atrocious. Big, console style lists (which you can presumably scroll with your - ew - gamepad) do NOT belong in a PC title. It's very difficult to find anything. Devs: take a look at how actual ARPGs do it. Take a look at Grim Dawn f.e: UTILIZE THE MOUSE, give items distinct graphics so that you can instantly see what they are, use the screen space efficiently, tooltips on hover.. basic stuff, get it right
