Resident Evil 2

It's Resident Evil 2 folks!

What more can I say? Ok fine, I'll try. This is the original Win9x PC release of Resident Evil 2 from 1999, warts and all, updated to work perfectly right out of the digital box, including support for modern XBox controllers. It might not be the "best" version of Resi-2 out there, but it does what it says on the tin and does it problem free. It's a great option for those not wanting to mess around with emulators, or jump through the (admittedly simple) hoops getting the 2006 SourceNext version up and running, not to mention the legality of both those options no matter what your personal stance on that is. Just remember that the "F9" key is how you exit the game! As for the game itself, Resident Evil 2 is pure nostalgic goodness, and easily the best of the original three Resident Evil games. Perfectly balanced with its "not too tough, not too easy" difficulty, with no frustrating puzzles to break the tight pacing, and tons of replayability thanks to its four separate, but connected campaigns. The "A/B" path system for both characters is still a standout feature unique to this entry, and at a brisk 4-5 hour playtime per run, a much appreciated inclusion. Best of all, no stupid Nemesis-like stalker enemy to ruin all the fun. Not even the 2019 remake was able to capture all its nuances and unique charm. Five stars!
