I am a fan of the original Flashback game back from the 90s and played it a lot on Amiga. The game itself unquestionably is a legend that should be played by everyone who likes Action Adventures. There is no need to discuss this any further. BUT! I hoped to get an enhanced version for my Windows PC and got a worse one than the original. The PostFX filters make the graphics look smudgy like the very same "feature" in DOSBox. Bloom and monitor fx are best left deactivated as they don´t really add to the graphic experience. In fact the best looking version is the one that looks like the original game. Apart from that I had some performance issues when running in Full HD. The "remastered" music sounds like a pathetic midi mockup giving a faint resemblance of the original tracks. I hate to say it but the original 8 Bit Sample MODs sound much cleaner and better orchestrated! I love the game itself but this version is a failure. I´d rather stick with the emulated Amiga version. Regarding this the price of 8€ would be too high for a good remake. Sadly this remake is a bad one, too.
As action scenes are beyond the player´s control on purpose I´d call this game a well made interactive movie. Detective work mainly focuses on reading memos and investigating crime scenes. The Devs might have taken the terminal operation part a bit farther like in MU Complex but it´s ok for my taste. The walking speed is intentionally slow as finding evidence, hints or easter eggs is the main focus. The story unfolds around the well known topic of human augmentation and relating ethical questions as well as immersively well done details of the corresponding "what if"s. If you like to pause inside a game to think further or to lose yourself inside a story this game is for you! The basic controls and limited range of dialogue options are perfect for a VR game so I´d love to try this one out on VR. Koyaanisqatsi in cyberpunk flavor. I loved this game for the 15 hours of gameplay it lasted as it comes close to the atmosphere I experienced in the original Blade Runner movie.
