I bought this in the big box format and it included the Ian Livingston RPG paperback book in the package. As a game I enjoyed it and loated it in equal amounts. Very cheap and quick deaths which frustrate and anoy mora than spur you on to win. The box offered the book which was a saving grace to the game. I dont think the book is given here in PDF format, which is a shame as that would make me raise the star rating to 4. To be honest its a middling game and 1 to play on a wet sunday afternoon only
Ok so I cant wait to play it and today/tomorrow I get my first chance to do just that. However A quick word about the collectors edition. I like many, appreciate Digital Downloads, but dont like them in all cases. I just got my Witcher 2 Boxed Collector Edition and WOW am I happy its not digital download. The Art book is lovely, the sculpture is nice, all the coins and dice etc add a lot to the value of the set. Its only when you ge to the Maps and the game itself where I can see Digital Download working. To Recap - Love Love Love the box set and so glad I held back from the digital
I only have a memory of the original Xbox version but from what I remember this was quite enjoyable - definatly action orientated you will spend a lot of time geting gold to level up those all important weapons. The Xbox version had a horrible save point scenario - where you would save in a level midpoint and so I hope this was improved in the PC Version Its a 2001/2002 game so I know what to expect with a graphic engine of that time. Im going out on a limb and buying this 1 - from a nostalgia point of view, and because I miss these types of games. Nice price as well :-)
Hard for me to write a review of this as all I can remember was the dissapointment I had when I installed it As others have said its not that its really really bad and buggy, its just so damn hardcore you always feel out of control If you spend the time on it and have patience then there is a good game under the hood Just like a championship Manager game its like reading a graphical spreadsheet - this is not a bad thing just very bewildering Before Master of Orion 3, the closest game I had to being overwhelmed was a game called STARS STARS can be still found if you look hard enough, and as complex as that game is I still felt more in control of that game then this 1 Master of Orion 2 still remains my favourite of all the editions out there and cant be recommended highly enough
A great game from a genere now past I was really into sandbox building games when this came out and was highly impressed. Caesar 3 is remembered fondly by those who bought it - the Egyptian Pharoah / queen of the nile follow up and Greek Zeus game were brilliant moves forwards for this type of game. Its a shame they did not continue. You will find the visuals a bit basic now, but the micro-management still remains high even today. At this price you cant grumble - there is far more hours of play in this for the outlay of 6 dollars so really there is no excuse. Take a leap of faith and buy this classic
I remember this game coming out when the new PowerVR cards came out and Voodoo cards had moved from V1 to V2 editions The Game had a great review in PCzone and it was a must purchase for me and I drove 30 miles to pick up my copy I had so much enjoyment out of it, it was different to Doom and Duke Nukem being 3d but also having full flight 360 degree aircraft turning Now 12 or so years on of course it has aged, but so have old arcade classics like pacman and space invaders, this does not distract away from a good game The levels are quite complex and the controls after a while become 2nd nature At the holiday price of 4 dollars you cant really go to wrong so my opinion is Give It a Go and see if you get immersed in the 360 degree world of Descent 8/10
