Agatha Christie - Hercule Poirot: The First Cases

very disappointing

Like many I was drawn to the game by having enjoyed SH Crime & Punishments as well as being a life long (Suchet's) Poirot fan as well as a big fan of Agatha Christie's crime books. Alas this game was a major disappointment on all fronts. This game made point and click boring and tedious way more than it needed to be. The character can only walk, not run. Gets very old very fast. There's barely no during conversation, they're in the style of those "animated tales" where you get the text/subtitles over the lower part of the screen and the two char's likenesses on each side of it. The whole game's animation is on the level with those 'hidden object' mobile games. Very low budget for the price of the game and the fact it came out in 2021 and not two decades ago. The whole 'mind map' thing frankly made me frustrated and wish I had never given money for the game. You must draw the most obvious, inane "conclusions" like "character was worried" when it's clear from a mile off that's an understood fact. Several times I couldn't make the necessary 'connections' and ended up spending an hour trying various combinations to finally randomly find the right one, by which point I couldn't have cared less what said conclusion was. And rarely was it anything that required actual thinking power, a kindergartener could have beaten me by trying less hard to think about things logically. I only figured out I can zoom in on the mind maps by scrolling the middle mouse button *halfway through the game*. By that point I had given up on playing with a controller because it was clunky, and via keyboard because walking the character everywhere was tedious. Hover-over mouse FTW. Didn't find the zoom function on either, no hints of it either in the game. I could go on, but to sum up this game made me feel stupid and frustrated. And I live for crime, adventure and puzzle games. This game failed at all three. And it was very overpriced. Would ask for money back but GOG is not to blame.
