Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition

Gameplay, Mood, and Atmosphere

You will see alot of reviews on GOG focused on criticizing the gameplay of Another World. These gamers tend to have a problem with the trial & error gameplay that is common with 80% of all computer based platformers. This is an odd criticism towards Another World, considering Another World is the defacto standard for all computer based platformers. Another World has one of the greatest examples of mood ever established within a game. The game uses cold colors throughout the environment that symbolizes the stark isolation that is prevailent throughout the game. The music is sparse with synthetic notes coming through at specific moments only to enhance a scene in which you either have to fight your way out of a tense situation, or retreat from a dangerous foe. Another World should not be missed by anyone who values artistry in games. Negative reviews should be looked upon with skepticism as it is understood that they were written with little understanding to the overall history of games when written.
