While Silent Hill 4: The Room does suffer from questionable sound design and gameplay choices, die-hard fans of the franchise owe it to themselves to give this game a fair shake. The atmosphere, music, and story are all on par with what I have come to expect from the best of the Silent Hill games, and the juxtaposition between the new first-person room sequences and the classic third-person otherworld sequences make this entry unique. If you're on the fence, do yourself a favor and give The Room a try. Personally, I recommend turning the SFX down a fair bit; adjusting the controls to your liking; and becoming aquainted with the new mechanics. Once you've done all that, I think you'll find that the unholy trinity of Silent Hill games is actually a terrifying tetralogy. And Konami, if you're reading this: please, please, PLEASE let Bloober remake Silent Hill 3 & 4.
