The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters - Deluxe Edition

Good game for Halloween

I was looking for a scary game for Halloween but also something light I could finish in a weekend. This was suitably creepy and I managed to finish it in about 8.5 hours. It is a horror adventure game with some action elements. You explore, gather clues, collect items and solve puzzles while avoiding, running and hiding from scary things. The atmosphere sells the game. You get pulled into some kind of otherworld which looks like a version of the real world but is full of spirits and overgrown with creepy vines. The visuals really set the mood and you are constantly listening for clues to what creatures and hazards are nearby. Hearing the click of high heels echoing down the hallway indicating that the main antagonist is nearby really gets your heart racing and sends you running for a hiding spot. The puzzles aren't overly difficult. Items are generally found where you would expect to find the in the real world. So once you find the map to an area you always have a pretty good idea of where you need to go and what you need to be doing. It was fun to play with friends. The game is as enjoyable to watch as it is to play. We would switch off player every time someone died or reached some plot milestone. It was fun to watch them jump and freak out at the keyboard before dying or escaping. The game is let down by the story. I never played the first Coma and the game really assumes that you did. The protagonist of the first game is important and I had no idea who he was. The ending is kind of weak as well. I got the bad ending I think but I was still expecting to find out what happened to the other characters at the end and you don't really find out. Be sure to sit through the end credits because that is where most of the conclusion is. Not a perfect game but pretty good. I will probably come back to it next Halloween and try for the good ending.
