I just won my first easy difficulty run. I would recommend FTL for any rougelike fans, especially those who enjoy sci fi. It has unlockable ships and ship loadouts, which will keep those who like unlockables entertained. It has some really fun micromanagement gameplay, especially in the later stages when things can get hairy and you have to try and balance your power, keep firing on that enemy ship and also control your crew to fix up anything or repel boarding enemies. It is a fantastic game and addictive as it is, but one can't help but think how cool it would be to have a sort of open world sandbox game with similar combat and crew management!
Thief Deadly Shadows was actually my first foray into the Thief world. I originally played it on the Xbox, and I remember being sucked into it like no other. The detail of the world, portrayed through plot missions, snippets of dialog overheard and the text found in notes and books really impressed me at the time, and made the world seem alive. While I agree with many that the first two Thief instalments are better, Thief:DS is still well worth playing!
Thief gold is a fantastic game. The level design is excellent and you would be challenged to find the same level of quality in today's games. Thief Gold has a variety of different levels, some you may find yourself breaking into a mansion to steal a valuable, others you will find yourself delving into long lost ruins or haunted tombs. The game has a thick atmosphere, and I found after a while of playing that I was looking past the aging and in some parts blurry textures and being sucked into the world. If you enjoy first person stealth games, or stealth games in general you will love this game. If you like more of the stealing from people elements you might prefer thief 2, as it has less tomb raiding and monsters than Thief Gold. Excellent game, highly recommended.
