Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

2024 is no place for 90s game design

Let's start of with, this game is by no means a 1 star product. As you can see from some of the other reviews, they don't actually discuss the game at all and instead are riding the faux outrage train that is all the rage these days. Anyway, on to the game. It's nothing new or special. I backed the game as a big fan of Suikoden 1 and 2, but I didn't in my wildest dreams expect that they'd try to recreate that experience all the day down to the old school UI and inventory management. Even limiting the save system to certain dungeon checkpoints seems odd choice. It's not a terrible game, and if you were a big fan of Suikoden then you'll likely enjoy your time with it even with some of the odd game design choices. It'll definitely scratch an itch while you wait for the Suikoden 1 and 2 remasters to release. However, if you're looking for a game that redefines what a JRPG could be or that has a story that you'll not soon forget, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I'm hoping the modding community can do some magic to update this game to resemble something we'd expect from a 2024 title.

Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok

What a loveletter

The Quest for Glory influence is unmistakable. I'm glad to see this title finally on GoG. I would have gladly paid money for this game, it makes me feel that giddy.

Baldur's Gate 3

It has potential

So unlike most reviews here I’ve purchased the game and I have played it. If anyone tells you it’s not rough around the edges they’re just outright lying to you. Online play is currently borked and there are all kinds of animation issues. I have not crashed yet, character customization is nice, story is interesting enough from what I’ve seen. I’ve enjoyed the characters I’ve run into. Is it Baldur’s Gate? Yeah, I mean, it’s in the Forgotten Realms setting. I think a lot of folks have some rose tinted glasses when looking back at the original games. They were great for their time but it’s time to move on. Is this DOS3? Absolutely not. DOS2’s combat has been more interesting and the game itself doesn’t take itself nearly as seriously as BG3 seems to. Am I glad I paid full price for an Early Access game? Absolutely. The game has a lot of potential and extra revenue for the developer is just going to make it that much better. Think of it like backing a kickstarter, the more money it gets the more stretch goals we unlock. It’s going to be a great game from what I’ve seen.

CAYNE

Free

It’s free, what is there to complain about? It could be a water boiling simulator and it’d still get my 5 stars, because it’s free.
