This is one of the first games I cought for PC, and that certainly colours my experience and nostalgia for it. It's a fun game, retaining the slow pace of Settlers 2, but removing the road system. It introduces micro-managing of certain occupations, soldiers in particular. There are a few more occupations and resources as well, making things just a bit more complex. The graphics are much improved, although I was never a fan of the 3D rendered settlers themselves. The lack of alpha blending gives sprites a jagged, very 90's look. The game also mixes different fonts, some of which are antialiased and don't fit the rest of the game. Some text is clickable, but there is no indication that it is, which makes the game feel rushed. On the meta side, the game does not work in windowed mode, which makes it hard to read the documentation while playing -- something you probably want to do when starting out. The game also changes the resolution of the screen in a way that causes some other windows to resize. If you've never played any of the Settlers games, this might not be the one to start with, but I still like it.
