Boiling Point: Road to Hell

I Can PLAY This!

As another said, kind of FarCry like; like FarCry 2 scheme playing and looking like the FarCry 1 era: this is a compliment as I mean it here... But I find Boiling Point easier to play; and even getting myself killed was more fun than in the first FarCry (I'm still a huge fan of FarCry 2), where I would only get frustrated... You can play this one like 'Postal' too, if you like, at least between saves: I never play Postal; I only like to play some others like this at times to vent! Lol. Otherwise, as Others have mentioned, is a FUN game, a bit buggy, dated, and a remake would be great. I would give it one more star, but for no controller support yet and random sound issues... It works fine on Win 10; I hope it still works on Win 11 after October! Only heard of it recently; glad I bought it!

StarCrawlers

Still Flawed, Still FUN!

Someone else here reviewed this accurately as 'Flawed But Fun', so I almost did not review -- but frankly is so much FUN, thought to review myself for this reason. It is also a bit repetitious maybe for hardcore 'dungeon crawlers'. I prefer open-world rpgs these days; haven't been hooked on one of these crawlers for years, like I am addicted to this one lately. Lol. I also like the humor and cartoony look I usually don't find amusing... Buy it on sale, I guess, for some bugs; but no crashes or game-breaking on my set up, Win 10, NV1050, 16gb system memory. Otherwise, other reviews can fill you in, good and bad. If I could get my soldier's rocket I installed to show I battle, I would give a 5; but fine without this, and maybe it will show up later, or maybe I am missing something else I need for it to activate? Lol. In any case, is a fun ride! :-)

DOOM 3: Phobos

Doom 3 On Steroids!

I picture id seeing this mod in action, saying, "YEAH, THIS is how we INTENDED Doom 3 to play!" It has all the moves the original could not manage so well at the time on most systems, and like an even better BFG than that version they later released. It does begin kind of slow, and reminds me of Soma. But I like Soma; some even compared the look of Soma to Doom 3, but underwater, and I love Irony! Lol. Finally, for hardcore fps gamers I think this would be a five, once the action starts -- but only normal and higher difficulty settings are provided, so I give it four stars for ME to play as a casual gamer. Also no gamepad support, and I'm just better these days with one. I also started with mouse and keyboard years ago, but gamepads are made for games: keyboards are mostly for word processing now, because my hands get too sore. Lol. Otherwise a great mod, with respect for the original, modern improvement and enhancements; I hope for a gamepad option added, so I can better deal with the harder difficulty. GREAT Job: It plays and looks great on Win 10, i5, 16gb, 4gb nv1050 display. WORTH the download!

Not For Broadcast

GREAT FUN!

I am not even very good at this, but enjoying it anyway. Kind of a 'tell' for me is if a game has a learning curve, but as Others say here is also GOOD, and a GOOD TIME. I thought not to review, everyone here says it so well; but for 2025 thought a more recent one (the ones I read!) is in order: Not For Broadcast is still GREAT FUN; not really my thing, but very glad I bought it. Finally, for those into FMV, video editing with gameplay, I can not imagine any complaints about this one at all. More for nostalgia, novelty, I'll try these, but I already made more progress than expected actually playing this one lately, because it is FUN to learn. It is mainly that one has to hurry to censor, edit, and all of this that is new to me, but if I don't mind, I think more experienced at this will enjoy it even more than I am: Five Stars, and no issues at all on my Win 10, i5, 16gb mem, 4gb nv1050 display. Laugh and Enjoy!

StarCrawlers Chimera

Procedural Masochism, but has Potential

StarCrawlers Chimera seems an exercise in procedural masochism compared to the first lofty title I am not reviewing here; THAT one was a good game: Chimera is a... well, 'chimera' actually IS a proper title for it, an unmanageable and difficult play of a game. Maybe the developer was having problems with a follow-up, to be fair, so named it this for this reason? I believe someone mentioned duplicates and the malfunctioning generation of the nanite clouds and such things as a problem, that is what I also mean mainly: If this can be fixed, it has real potential to be as good as the first, if not an improvement on it. I hope they do fix this, but there are no updates yet this year. Three stars for hope of it's repair; it would be five stars if it did not lose it's mind entirely after a first even uncompleted playthrough: Seems some basic programming could be tweaked to fix this; I think one major part of the team was unavailable for awhile before fixing some things last year. I wish them well getting this done, also for GOG gamers to also play -- if they can again update this soon it would be FUN.

DOOM (2016)

Doomed To SUCCEED

I had already bought Doom 2016 only a couple of years ago, and is an excellent successor to Doom 3, especially 'BFG' that I also liked and bought again here. So, I bought '2016' here too, on sale. It is also worth the full price to anyone who especially likes the later games of the series. I wasn't a fan of Orginal or Doom II, except for multiplayer then. In later ones I liked the singleplayer better than orginally; and some Doom 3 multiplayer I last enjoyed... But I have never played this one online anyway; and as another great single-player experience though I highly rcommend it, especially for Others who also prefer later games in the series. Also runs VERY well on my older i5 and nv1050; 16GB Ram, 4GB Vram -- NO complaints. I also have not played the latest Doom; again have never been my favorite series from id, and I prefer other titles by them -- but Doom 2016 was even a request of mine lately, on GOG'S 'Dream List' ; and glad I bought it again here... Five Stars I just can not resist: There is NOTHING wrong with this game, but maybe no quicksaves; but the autosaves are even timed better than most. The GOG version also performs better and creates checkpoints even more helpfully than my previous older version, I've now deleted from my own backup in favor of this version (bought steamed; I'm not steamed, so repacked it to play). And it has Snapmaps already installed, for offline 'vs' competition and some extra fun against the bots. I was WAITING for this: THANKS GOG, for another GREAT Old Game!

Super 3-D Noah's Ark

Wolfenstein, With Camels!!!

Lol. I already had this one; many here I already had or have: but to show support and because I am also a Christian (not a normal one, 64 and still playing arcade games since the 1970s -- I think maybe more fun than some other Christians) I also bought it again here. It does play like Wolfenstein 3d I have continued to play nearly every day since 1991 (a shareware demo, folks), and it plays VERY well in it's entirely new setting aboard Noah's Ark! Not much else to say, but that I never played Doom so much myself, but for the Internet craze it caused, and my son would kick my @#$, modem to modem regularly. Those WERE the days; but I still preferred more military shooting than horror afterward. I still play the latest Wolfenstein mods, of which 'Noah' is a total conversion WELL done for this: Three stars is only because I do not play this one EVERY day, but is as good otherwise, no crashes on Win 10. Great for children too I think; you can EMAIL them one :-)

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition

It ROCKS, Even BETTER!

I bought the upgrade on sale, but GOG added the entire game to my library, which may be usual now to keep things simple; in any case, on my older pc it runs great and looks far better than the original. If one is installing mods, as I do lightly, these will only work updated or for this version of the game. But I am presently playing with no mods; I enjoy it more as-is than even the original, I also gave five stars: five and a half therefore for THIS one... Again, reminds me of some other games I like, also mentioned by Others; and again, have no problem with this, and is also totally different in content from the others I love. So, what's NOT to LOVE? Again, running this on my slightly upgraded, still i5, (now 4GB 1050 graphics), 16GB system memory; and I have no issues -- only more immersive and fun than even the Orginal I enjoyed and completed. It especially looks so much better, with maybe some minor changes otherwise: like playing a Different game all over again. Lol. WEIRD; and FUN, FUN, FUN! the way I like games; VERY glad I bought it! :-)

X4: Community of Planets Edition (2024)

FIVE Stars, EASY!

I waited until reviews and posts were more about the game than about performance. I can say it runs fine on my pc: i5, 16GB memory, nvGT1050, 4GB display; no performance issues. So far as the game itself, I'm happy to have bought 'X4'. Menus and control schemes are a bit cluttered; for a space sim is hard to avoid...be patient and adjust, or make adjustments. I hate having to learn for a game, so skip tutorials; I spacewalked and finished a mission without one, after only an hour, tweaking, and getting a feel for flight, docking, menus. This is not too long; and I'm fussy. Lol. And just as I reached this objective and thought I should be out of the ship, I found the transporter in the cockpit behind me for 'spacesuit' and was outside and making a repair. Neither this or better npcs were in 'Rebirth'; reminded me of an updated 'X2' mission: If you have the patience to like space flight simulators GET THIS GAME! What veteran players may think, I don't know... I started late, liked 'Rebirth' best, even tried previous ones in the series. I liked X2 for its characterization, because it had more npcs and life than only ships and stations; and X-Rebirth seemed more alive: I hoped X4 would continue in this direction -- it does, even Better! I'm not an expert at resource and management; I like to transport, repair, defend, escort, and fight off pirates, my background is based on old 'X-Wing' simulators. I like X4 more than I expected; it seems to combine elements of X-Rebirth and previous play like veterans seem to miss from earlier in the series, that I can also play, and so could most Others: With a variety of starts and included dlcs all players will find something to like. And the graphics remind me of 'No Man's Sky', I like -- but color saturation can be turned down within the menu: This should be in every menu for games; cartoon colors break the immersion... I am so glad egosoft gave the option to turn this down in theirs: Again, GREAT game; FIVE Stars, EASY! :-)

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin

'UNPLAYABLE' Then; but NOW...

Well, I had an itch for old-school, but newer. I'm familiar with botched attempts I've got working well enough to play and enjoy; many complained, but gave no details. Here are a few details: There has to be something good to begin with to even fix a game, but you can not begin to even jump as you must for the platforming, no gamepad inversion, seems no life or story; a dead boat floats silently up to the dead dock to begin with... I think 3D Realms is dead and hates gamers, they just like to steal and mess with us. Stay away from THIS one too. They go way back in history; I was so happy that I bought Prey twice when they resurfaced with it, but here's yet another unplayable mess from them: Really too bad; I wonder if their lead has a terrible drug problem or something: He is online, he is offline; 3d Realms is back again, then gone again. Now just fronting trash like this for years... Finally, there is a mod that fixes some of this, but not the inversion issue; and that modder shows a list of more left to do that still needs to be done, so bad he needs help doing it. He may also be prevented as they are now watching him, and left a 'compliment' at his site this year... Stay away from 3DRealms, and stay away from this game: It is as EMPTY and VILE as it's developers are now! My deepest apologies and update, October 2025: Now five stars, with a mod to help with the jumping physics, and other issues of the above rant: Maybe I was having a bad day? Lol. I do wish 3dRealms were more steady though, and that I did not have to mod the game. Still, it IS AWESOME when fixed! :-)
