Sam & Max Hit the Road

Love it

I love everything about this game. Fun point & click adventure, great humour, nice comics-like drawings, and it isn't even annoyingly long. Moreover, the Italian dubbing is perfect and the adaptations of its jokes are very nicely done.

Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition

Better definition, good old game

I initially believed both 15th and 20th anniversary editions were just repackaged versions of the old DOS edition with included dosbox, but I was wrong! They both are a complete rewrite of the game engine, although the plot doesn't change. That's just great, better graphics, higher definition but same scenes and playability for a game that already was a lot of fun. Anyway I still can't spot any "improvements" between the two anniversary editions in terms of game play, but I'm the glad the latest one has localization files that can be edited with a plain text editor, since Italian strings are far from being perfectly translated.

Battle Chess Special Edition

No Enhanced CD version

It's a collection of three games: the classic, the futuristic and the chinese ones. Among the them, the most graphically cured is the futuristic one, which has got the nicest animations too. That's probably why I like it the most. The classic one moves way too slowly and uses the (ugh!) speaker, it could have been better. Too bad the Enhanced CD version isn't included. About the chinese one, I didn't even bother trying it. Anyway it's basically chess with fighting, nothing more, nothing less. If you like chess, get it and you'll have the game with an unusual interface. I just hope GOG will get the CD version and Battle Chess: Game of Kings too one day, for they look great.

Screamer 2

Great!

Great, great, great. Have I already said great? Well, it's great. Get it, now. Moreover 3D acceleration is an added value, I didn't even know dosbox could support voodoo 3dfx emulation.

VR Soccer '96

Not for me

I suppose this is one of those games you either love or hate. Unfortunately my case is the latter, at least so far. If you're looking for a great old football game, forget this one and look for fifa '94. However this one reaches three stars thanks to the graphics.

Sensible World of Soccer 96/97

Ok...

I used to play the '92/'93 version of this game and it was really a lot of fun. Hence I was glad to find a game of the same series here. Anyway I found this version much harder, friendlies are easy to play but then it seems impossible to score against any opponent in season mode, with goalies that become martians. Oh well, I suppose I'll have to find out some tricks for this release and maybe get a joystick too. Still 5 stars for the localized versions.

Rune Classic

great!

Ages ago I played a Linux port of this game made by Loki and I found it really awesome. Unfortunately I couldn't finish it because that version had some serious video glitches, but I didn't forget it. I'm so glad I found it here in a localized and revised edition! Very well done, GOG!

STAR WARS™ Galactic Battlegrounds Saga

Awesome

I've never played AOEII and some time ago a friend of mine recommend it to me. Hence I wanted to try it but since it isn't listed in GOG, I decided to fall back on this SWGBS, which is supposed to be the same game with Star Wars graphics. I don't regret doing it at all, the game is very well made and totally addictive, you can really spend hours playing it without even noticing. The gameplay somehow resembles the first Kohan series to me (apart for the fact that you can't resurrect your heroes and your city walls don't upgrade by themselves) which is an added value, and has plenty of scenarios in which you can play for any civilization, either good or bad ones. Both units and buildings are very well detailed, missions are intriguing, the sound set is very done and you can build your own customized scenarios. I also found plenty of user made scenarios and an interesting mod on the web. The only downside I found in SWGBS is that you have to install a thirdy party mod in order to play it in widescreen mode; still menu screens don't get fixed anyway. LucasArts should really show this game some renewed love, and that would be very well deserved for sure.

Baldur's Gate 2 Complete

Excellent

I didn't know about this game and although I'm not really into RPGs, I wanted to get this one because of the positive reviews I had read around. I have to say it was a good decision and this game turned into an awesome surprise. After I managed to install all of the enhancements and got ridden of the resolution switch problem (due to the deprecation of the DirectDraw API in DirectX 11, please take a look at this thread: http://www.gog.com/forum/baldurs_gate_series/small_fullscreen_on_windows_8baldurs_gate_ii ) I could finally play this wonderful epic story which is gonna stay installed on my PC for a long while ;-) BG2 features a great and intriguing plot, endless possibilities of expansion, surprising epic discoveries and last but not least, a huge community that supports it. The soundtrack reminds me of Kohan somehow. Anyway do get it, you won't be disappointed.
