I was moderately excited for this release but avoided supporting it in early access. Every reviewer I trust said it was amazing other than the checkpoint system. After playing through the whole game, I agree with them. I think every level is incredibly enjoyable right up until your first death. At that point, the fun is sucked right out of the room. I'm not sure if it can be fixed without altering the game further, so it's a bit of a smear on an otherwise good shooter. Outside of that obvious issue, I do find Prodeus to be incredibly derivative. It wants to be DOOM so bad, practically begging you think of it in the same light. The monsters are the same, the attitude is the same, and weapons are the same. It wants that prestige of being a classic without earning it, in my opinion. The visuals are stellar. Not much to say there. I do, however, find the enemies hard to see among all the clutter. The biggest offense is the Quad Barrel Shotgun. Kinda sounds like slapping a slice of deli ham on a countertop. As far as recommendations go, I think it's a pass for now. We are in a golden age of shooters and there are so many other games worthy of your support. See Cultic, Hedon, and Nightmare Reaper for shooters heavily inspired by the greats that take the extra step into being something special and unique.
