Well, it's not Fallout in Space, but it's a decent and well rounded space RPG. Pros: - unique world and style - lots of weapons and enemies - interesting quests - quite a long play if you add the DLCs and the secondary quests Cons: - some of the characters are... mediocre at best of times - some of the environment color choices are questionable (high contrast, eye bleeding colors) - the difficulty curve is not consistent with some mid game weapons having a huge damage drop - ranged weapons are ammo wasters, melee weapons are far superior, very annoying for ranged characters to have to constantly buy ammo - some of the DLC quests should have been part of the game itself as the main game is kind of short without. Conclusion: With proper characters (not what we have now), a more balanced difficulty curve, and less annoying color palette this could be quite a decent game series. It all depends on the characters. If they stay the same, it's a big loss.
The idea would have some value, if not for the amazingly shocking bad writing and the current-day political manifesto forcefully inserted in it. The game is extremely short, but, in this case, I must admit it's a good feature. The price tag is laughable high. I won't recommend buying it above 1 dollar or less if possible, and only as a prank to your spose. Details: Gameplay - 2/5 (lots of buttons and text choices, don't expect anything interactive) Sound - 3/5 (the music is nice, the sound effects decent, there is no voice) Story - 1/5 (it exists, nothing else. For a game that supposed to be narrative based, it's shameful) Graphics - 1/5 (the backgrounds are atrocious, the characters are poorly drawn, the UI is cheap) Pricing - 0/5 (at no point in time in any universes this game deserves anything above 5$) Total: 7/25 or 1.4/5 Stars (Awful)
The game looks good and the gameplay is innovative and fluid. Each character is unique and comes with its own skill tree that allows you to customize it. This gives quite a interesting tactical and strategical variety as some skills synergize with other from other characters, making the idea of "teamwork" quite an important part of the game itself. Upgrades and unlocks matter and may even be essential for various combat maps down the road. (see below) The enemies are also quite varied and interesting. There are a number of "boss" units that you will encounter couple of time and that will deliver a challenging and even annoying experience, ramping up the difficulty and forcing the player to do additional missions just to level up and try again. Even so, these missions become a chore and repeating them trying to find the winning combination of skills draws the fun away. The main problem comes from the story itself. Childish and yet disturbingly mature. Terrorism and humor? Apparently they suppose to work together somehow? It feels like the game tries too hard to appeal to a specific audience, and that's fine, but it limits the enjoyment of others Not everyone must have a past trauma, not everyone must be an undeveloped teen with issues, not everyone must be as diverse as the cast of a corporate sitcom. But it is, and it is forced, it lacks real soul, despite posing as having one. If the corporate wanted to make a decent game, this is the best they could have done. And for me that equals "buy on sale only".
...way too long and extremely frustrating ending. After spending so many hours with the protagonists, solving all kinds of mysteries and revealing more and more of the conspiracy we find ourselves face to face with... more hours of pointless and boring grind in an never-ending underground dungeon were all we do is collect orbs and lvl up in order to face the final boss. Fine, whatever, is not like I wish for more story, more character development, more of what already got used with through the entire game. No, I'll just grind myself for couple of hours without any of that, at least the final boss will be worth it, right? RIGHT!? Oh boy. I'll not gonna spoil the "fun", but let's just say the words "hell" and "go to" will pop up in your head at least once, if not each time you foolishly believe is over and then get a complete party wipe just so you can... restart the entire thing, and I mean the ENTIRE THING! Yes, the memories of the ending made me question if I'll ever play another game in the series. It absolutely ruined the entire adventure, the fun, the story, the game itself. Did I mentioned how HARD is the ending? No? Well, you see, the huge underground dungeon is there for a reason. To GRIND, and you will have to grind and grind because, if you dared to actually play the game as a game not as a grindfest then your level is way to low for the final boss battle(s). That was a conscient design choices. The developers knew that many players will reach the ending underleveled and, instead of lowering the boss fight difficulty, decided is more "fun" to add 3-5 entire Diablo levels for you to grind for a while (2-3 hours) and lvl up. Except for this extremely annoying decision I have nothing but praise for this game. And even with this miserable ending I can say, PLAY IT, it's worth it. Just don't rush it, and make sure you lvl up your orbs (area heal, area stonewall) or you'll gonna have a bad time.
The game looks and feels decent. A nice "city builder" type of game with a very unique gameplay mechanic based on dice-workers and worker placement on a weird but interesting "circular world". It comes with a decent tutorial and four scenarios to play with, giving you plenty of hours of gameplay. The good: - unique world - unique gameplay concept (dice workers) - varied tech tree - interesting and innovative - well designed - well made The bad: - the tutorial stops short of explaining the core strategy - if you are not using the core strategy, you will have a very bad time and you will lose a lot. - after you mastered the core strategy the game difficulty suddenly drops, a lot - not much replayability after the first 2 wins. The conclusion: A fresh, nice looking, solid game, with an unique gameplay. A very well crafted game that will keep you entertained for a week or so. Once you have mastered the core strategy and the tech tree, the game difficulty drops a lot and becomes somewhat repetitive.
There are little things to say on a game that starts in a world where the "evil president" builds a wall to stop illegal immigrants from entering, and stops the young hip teens from fleeing. Graphically it is a low poly game. It looks decent, for a low poly game, but that is about it. The volumetric fog keeps the game acceptable. The characters are generic just as any other low poly corporate marketing "games" of today. The sound is... average. With "classical" EDM style tracks interrupted by some kind of "disturbed background noise". The voice acting is actually good. The actors did a great job. The story. Oh boy. Did you even wanted to play the CNN reality of "Trump is evil and will kill everyone and throw the migrants into working camps"? No? Too bad, because this is what you will get. Starts with the "evil billionaire president" throws a party in the middle of the desert using some cheap props, indie bands and a small van camp.... yes, that's a "rich dude party", and goes downhill from there. There are red necks, stalkers, racists, bad cops, good cops, and of course everyone is has a role, to tell you that your current president elected, is evil. Every single narrative conclusion is exactly the same. Player choices. In all Visual Novel games you get to make some choices. Here you can choose to be evil or not. Choosing to side with the cop that tries to do her job and escort a juvenile offender to a detention center - is a bad choice, you're evil, the cop is evil, the world is evil, bad you bad bad bad! Well, you say to yourself, whatever, let's get this punk in jail, become "evil" and see what will happen. Well, nothing happens! The cop will release the punk regardless. Because racism or something. She just changes her mind under mob pressure and that's that. Your choices, are meaningless, and that is it. Once you start this game you will accept that your elected president is an evil rich white racist. Period.
