Prey

This is a bad game.

People think that people like me think this game is bad because it's like System Shock. It's true that people have rose tinted glasses for that game, which was vastly improved by Bioshock in literally every way, but that game is not bad. It's a proof of concept that worked at the time, and the same developers improved with time in other iterations. Prey (2017) is a rip off, not inspired by but directly ripping off System Shock, and it has dull game play with boring enemies, a dull atmosphere and mechanics that were done better in many other games. It's so uncreative it even had to steal the name from another game. The first game I can think of in history to do that. I like Arkane's Dishonored series, but it seems like every other game they make is uninteresting or bad in some way. Even Dishonored is just ripping off Thief, but at least in that they added to it and improved on the concept. In this they made a worse thing then what they ripped off. Oh well. Can't win every time. My recommendation is skip this one if you are becoming curious about it at this point. It's really not worth it. If you're looking on GOG you'd be better off playing System Shock or Bioshock instead.

The Evil Within 2

A deeply flawed rip off

The first Evil Within is one of the worst survival horror games of all time. The only reason I can say I am glad it exists is because we don't really get survival horror games anymore. I beat this game on steam when it came out. I think it's better in the mechanics department than the first game. The open world gives you a feeling of space in a weird way that works for this game. Like the first game, though, this game is incredibly not scary. It's so not scary that it's scary how not scary these games are. It's almost like they don't really want them to be so babies who don't play scary games because they're too scary will play them. The first game had fights straight out of Naked Gun where you just run around a pole 50 times and shoot a thing with your gun until it dies. it's the silliest thing ever. This one thankfully doesn't have that problem. Again, mechanically this game is leaps and bounds better than the first- so it feels good to kill the incredibly not scary monsters in it. The monster designs are decently generic- none of which hold a candle to Silent Hill but really really want to. The story is slightly better only mainly because it's much less a focal point. This game is open world so you kind of open up missions by finding them with the radio. It's a neat idea, but it means if you think the story is dumb don't worry there's another one over there you might like. This was smart given how much of a rip off the story is. Don't think I'm just saying that- Shinji Mikami was very open that he is ripping off Inception with the first game, and he still is here. I think he does it better this time than he did in the first one. I don't think Shinji Mikami is a very good video game developer. Resident Evil 4 was bad and The Evil Within was bad. At least with this one it has good mechanics- so it feels good to kill the monsters unlike in those two awful games. So get this one and skip those. Saves you money.

Blade Runner

A fantastic cult classic

This will be mostly from memory. Let's see, you have to track "skin jobs" but you have to do certain things at certain times or characters wont be in certain places because they move around, and there are multiple solutions to most situations, and there are multiple endings (less vague than the original film). Also, the story is fantastically written (although admitted a bit fan service-y) to correspond with the original film. What this means is while you play the game the original movie is also taking place so sometimes you run into characters from the film, or hear about things characters from the film have done. This was such a good idea that really helps to set the tone for a game that was made like... 15 years or something after the original movie even came out sort of giving us the true sequel to the original film in a lot of ways (its WAAAAYYYY better written than that 2049 trash and there are better characters - no weird robot and AI "sex scenes" or Jared Leto here). 2049 is a bad movie. This is a great game that has nothing to do with it and spits on that trash. Yay! I made this about something else. No, but seriously. Play this game if you like the good Blade Runner, and not that one made by a hack who is trying to prove he can make movies by poorly making sequels to movies that didn't need them in the first place and failing miserably. BUY THIS GAME! DON'T BUY BLADE RUNNER 2049! :D
