Hiveswap is the long, long, *long* awaited adventure game set in the Homestuck Webcomic universe If you like Homestuck (admit it!) then you'll probably enjoy the quirky and self referential humor like that of Undertale. Those with little connection to Homestuck can understand and enjoy the world and very endearing characters that inhabit it. Mechanically, its very simple with only a few options to "fail" and some straightforward puzzles The greatest issue when recommending it is in the title; "Act 1" with apparent release date set or information for future acts, and the painful wait for just a few hours of content, its arguably a gamble whether anything else is really, truly coming. But, as a standalone game, i can recommend it, but i'd recommend it far, far more when the ensuring acts drop
CoC Dark Corners has been an enigma in the horror genre for its almost avant garde gameplay and story. The adaption of the book Shadow over Innsmouth is great, but its somewhat brought down by poor combat and a very odd pacing. Till now, it was only available as a buggy mess on steam so i'm very happy to finally to pick it up and properly play it and for the price, its worth it!
Furi is a third person action game that follows a boss rush design template alongside an incredible synthwave score by talent such as Carpenter Brut and Knight. Essentially, you play as a nameless stranger who, with some help, has to escape a vast multidimensional prison fighting through the different jailers hence the tag line "The Jailer is the key, kill the jailer and you will be free" Furi is all about delivering hard fast paced action, there are no enemies outside of the bosses which is fine as they are both challenging and varied in attacks and design. Furis combat has real depth to where you can actually get really good at it, the game also incorporates bullet hell mechanics forcing you to be very nimble and flexible in your playstyle. The game is tough as nails hard, you will die. A lot. But its very satisfying mastering the blocking and dodging systems. Why not five stars? Simple. There's no replay value. After the boss fights, that's it besides a time attack mode. Overall, Furi is a really entertaining and enjoyable game that im glad finally has gotten released on GOG
Death to Spies looks pretty good actually, however, it seems at least for AMD users, changing the resolution AT ALL overworks the CPU crashing the game. This means either deal with playing at 800x600 or uninstall and reinstall everything for hours. Shame on GOGs poor quality here.
Pacific Assault is the middle of the road installment: Not to good, not to bad either. This makes it much harder to properly recommend, the Pacific theater is a great idea with so few other competitors and while the game's jungle and tropical enviros work well, you'll yearn for the varied complexity found in Allied Assault. The combat is alright, that's if you're A-OK with AAs slow pace of fighting ie two-three .308 rounds to the chest to take someone down. Unfortunately, your AI buddies seem to be brain dead chumps But hey, PA is a decent enough shooter that on sale might be worth picking up.
