To start let me preface this by saying I like Oblivion. I own 3 different copies of this game, I would never advise anyone NOT to play this game. However this game does have its... flaws. Oblivion very much feels like it was a rushed out product. The vanilla version really lacked content compaired to the previous 3 titles. Your main charicter is actualy rather unimportant in the actual plot. In morrowind your the reborn hero destined to destroy the ultimate evil Dagoth Ur. in Skyrim you are another legendary figure with the ability to absorb the souls of dragons and comand the world with your voice. In Oblivian, you're an errand boy and bodyguard for the people who are actualy naritivly important. This title in the franchise was also the first to be designed with consoles in mind first. As such the menus and controls are optimised for them and not the PC. As was stated above, the main quest, and even the various faction stories are on the lacking side. Fortunatly some of this was remidied by expansions. The first, Knights of the Nine does do its bit to expand the lore of the imperial cult and has its highlights but it can be tedius or actualy unplayable if you dont like tp play lawfull-good. Other content was also added in to give a few more small dungeons/strongholds. and of cource the infamous horse armor DLC that started the trend of microtransactions for uselss ingame items. The final thing of note here, The Shivering Isles THIS is the bit of the game that is what makes oblivion worth it. Here is where Oblvion actualy sheads its boring bog standard mideval fantasy set up and gives the player something dynamic, interesting and fun. It also establishes the true destiny for your charicter in the ES mythos. If nothing else play oblivion for this!

This game should by all the graces of the gaming gods be a perfect five. My hands should burn off for marking it as less then five BUT there is one reason I cannot rate it as it should rightfully be. GOG or someone messed up the later gen windows conversions and we do not have Joystick support and yet some how the Mac version does. This is a travesty of justice against one of the greatest pc games of all time IMHO. Please GOG, or who ever has the power, fix this.
