Metal Slug is the pinnacle of run-and-gun arcade goodness, but this port doesn't do it justice. It's the same DotEmu port that you'll find on Steam and Humble Bundle, and little has been done to fix the faults of those versions. Frequent slowdowns occur when you wouldn't encounter them playing on a different emulator, like MAME. Also, the menus look extremely average and poor for such a legendary game. I believe that you get the original files, so just throw them into an emulator and enjoy the best that any arcade game can give you (actually that would be Metal Slug X for me, but you get my point). I'd still recommend buying this game, even if just to show support for the francise. We really need an updated port of these games; perhaps giving it the Sonic CD treatment with a new engine capable of running at a locked 60FPS? The demand is out there SNK, and I hope that GOG will play a part in this pipe dream of mine.
