The only mod I really needed was a high res mod and the ability to zoom out a bit. This mod does that but way too much else which takes away from the original's magic. - new maps - these are not too exciting most of the time, with things like massive lava seas around you which looks rubbish because of the repeating texture - Even on normal level it's way too hard. Most of the bosses I couldn't defeat when I first met them, I had to grind a few more levels before trying again - Item crafting was brought in - however there's way too many ingredients to keep track of, and you never know what you're gonna get. I tried it a few times but didn't receive anything exciting. I risked valuable/rare items hoping for better results but that didn't do anything extra either - If you're looking for butcher, now you need to make a town portal from his chamber. I don't think this was so in the original, but I missed it because I forgot about the boy's hint about this. Worst of all, I couldn't defeat Diablo after a long long grind. I struggled with the minions in the 4 chambers to begin with, again I had to increase my level a few times and even then I only managed by casting a bunch of guardians and let them do most of the job. This final part of the game is also time limited which again adds no enjoyment to the game, only irritation. Diablo however I couldn't defeat, no matter what I tried I didn't even get close. Insanely frustrating after all the time I put into it. I remember as a kid I beat him firing holy bolts at him, now I look utterly stupid.
One thing I defintely loved about this version: I started up the game and had to adjust nothing apart from mouse sensitivity. Screen resolution set to my desktop, I really had to touch nothing. Awesome. The game is still very enjoyable, my only annoyance is with level design: sometimes things you need to get ahead are hidden way too much. Or maybe I'm too old. Anyway, if you are after issue free nostalgia, this is a good one to get
