The game is ok, I guess? their is no tutorial to speak of and the game essentially tells you nothing, right from the get go you pick a character you want to play and get a random amount of points to place in your stats like any basic RPG, BUT each class has min stat requirements that the game does not tell you so you have to play a guessing game on your stats to pick a class, moreover their are classes that are alliangment bound and their are classes that you can never even get unless you get really lucky with the random stat generator, or use your 1TIME DLC FRUIT that you can NEVER GET BACK, even if you start a "new game", also the quest requirements are all random drops so the 1st quest can take you 5min or 25min to complete, depending on if you have someone who can appraise the item like a bishop or GRIND pitiful amounts of money from mobs to pay for appraisal. Leveling up is a crapshoot since you don't choose where your stats go which would be fine but apparently you can LOSE stats on lvl ups? why? so i can get punished for leveling up in an RPG for doing nothing more than playing the game. lastly this game has REALLY BAD directions, some quest givers will send you out to get something that you'll have to grind for but then also say "it's in the mid levels of the dungeon" Bruh that's 2-3 FLOORS you have to FULLY MAP unless you get lucky and go the right direction the first time. This game is good for a couple of hours and at a discounted price it's not bad but anything above $10 is a really hard sell, this game gets very repetitive and pretty much plays its' self, if you can get past the crushing difficult beginning lvls 1-3 the game becomes insanely easy after since their is pretty much no weapon veriety, it'll be the same weps and armor with just a +1or2 tacked on to the end.
All the reviews that i see for this game is that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I have to wonder is all that praise the game gets from people who look at it from a nostalgic eye or is it really just that great and as a newcomer to the PC baulders gate, that answer is no, the game is broken under the gise that it's D&D, i have about 8 hours 30 min in the game and all i have gotten to on CORE AD&D rules is the inn like 20 min into the game, now you may say that invalidates all my critisims, but no that renforces them, this game cheats you in all the wrong ways, enemies do random crits that insta-kill your party members, though not like they need the crits to do that since your party members start with such small amounts of HP that if they fart too loudly they'll kill themselfs. Thats my biggest and only problem with this game it the damage that things do, kobolds and other trash mobs shouldn't hit more than a paladin who has a plus 2 to hit right out of the gate, not saying don't make the game have no challange but, you can't put all these enemies in the game who are constantly better than you. I had a thief with 8 HP who got 1 shotted and died in the second area wasn't even a crit so im not really sure how people are giving this game such high priase when it's this unbalanced.
