I played it the first time and thought it was excellent but a few things contradicted in my initial interpretation. I decided to see what other people thought and theirs made more sense regarding the events in chronological order (which would have been more obvious the second time). But I just wish I had done it a second time to get it myself. 5 stars for the game, 0 to me for lack of effort.
I never played the original and only picked this up because it was on offer, but after playing it right through I definitely think it is worth more than its full price. I was expecting an old duke style run and gun, which it is and SO much more. The levels are incredibly well designed, not just for an old game, really create a gritty tense atmosphere. The attention to detail in it (particularly the gore) is really impressive. Weapons, also, great. I was expecting to just get bigger, better, kill faster guns as I progressed, but your full arsenal is tactically relevant throughout the whole game. Some bad asses later on are best taken down with a trusty shot gun, while the humble flare gun is damn handy when shooting and ducking for cover. Of course if you just want to have a laugh the napalm cannon makes for a great game of human skittles. The pack makes for a great play, but if you’re looking for more there is absolutely tonnes of community content to keep you going indefinitely. It’s not mentioned but a map builder is included (which must be manually opened in dos box) but it is not for the short of patience. Lastly, I heard that Jason Hall founder of monolith productions is looking to personally buy the rights for blood and re-release an updated version.
