I started a game on an easy mission. Here is what happened : My Caster got jumped upon and hit 3 times while his only attack, of course, missed. Same with the axe-wielding henchman, his counterattack, of course failed, dodge stance didn´t do anything for time, enemies _always_ hit for high amounts of damage. The camera is very close to the floor and maneuvering is a pain in the butt. I as left with a caster and two archers, wich hit all the time but with minimal damage. All that was left to do was alt-F4, uninstall, done. Other than that it looked interesting at first but the balance is a desaster. Not recommended, not even for the actual 1,99, except you are a masochist.
I own this on Epic store (didn´t know this is on gog). I played both dos games (Ufo 1 + Ufo 2 when they came out) for a very long time, they are still among my favorites and nobody ever managed to get near the cool playstyle with their clones. I like the tactical battles, they work for me. What I don´t like are the scripted story battles. But that is a general thing : I never play games with stories and scripted stuff if I can avoid it, I have become more of a open-world kind of player over the years. I hate to read through stories, have chat with npc´s and tutorials. The battles in general are a bit repetitive and the game lacks variety. A cool thing is the destructible armour pieces and that you can destruct you enemies piece by piece. If it where forme they could remove all the story elements and make it pure procedural generated without any scripted stuff, it really would make a better game out of it without repearting the lame story after a restart. The game has the usual science elements where you can research new items wich then change the battles. So it is still a ufo - like game with the usual gameply mechanics. Nothing wild and exciting but not bad either. If you like this kind of games, go grab it. It is never a mistake, just keep your expectations in check and you will have some fun.
Schade!
I was expecting something more indepth but instead this game is pure boredom. Sure some of the quests have an interesting story and most of the times funny but other than that there is only boredom. You send a party and click the conversation options, thats it. The Tavern management consists out of clicking on people with speech bubbles over their heads to hopefully make them happy and buying some new items to put on the table. Thats it! BOOOOOORING! Not worth the money.
Nothing much happening while you do research and have almost no options to manage you "empire". Meaningless battles without any strategy yet sometimes nice to look at. From time to time someone meaningless attacks you meaningless planets. That is pretty much about it. I regret spending the 2 bucks on it as sad as it may sound.
I bought the game because I like the 4x genre, I like phantasy and I like turn based battle and this game seemed to combine it all in a good sense. But far off! This game is boring as hell. All you can do is plunder some locations and what you mostly get is crafting materials and some items. The battles are mostly unweighted and even when the tooltip is showing a weaker army you almost get oneshotted in a lot of situations. The grafic is so 1999. I can not recommend it. The opponents armies just hang out somwhere and dont do anything. Just disappointing.
