If you like D&D, this game offers an interesting story and some excellent adventure sites. It's not very heavy in terms of role-playing, so if you're expecting the in-depth dialogues of Baldur's Gate you'll be disappointed. Still, this is a good, straightforward adventure for those who like D&D action.
When Kingmaker's story gets going, it is very fun and interesting. The companions have great personalities, and I want to know more about their stories. Unfortunately, combat is a slog. You basically fight everything on the map, and once you have a set strategy you rarely have to deviate from it. If you could cut the number of fights in half or maybe down to a third, this would be a much better game.
Great story, wonderful cinematics, depth of choice, accurate use of the D&D engine...this game is basically the perfect D&D game. A worthy successor to a truly great franchise that not only meets the expectations set by its predecessors but exceeds them.
