TL;DR: Even if conversational games are not your cup of tea I recommend you give episode 1 a try (it's free!). You may love it nonetheless. I don't normally enjoy conversational games. Most often I just feel like they should have just been comics/books/movies instead. However, I was eager to try Scarlet Hollow just on the basis of Abby Howard's work. I like her art and her writing, so I figured even if this was one of her comics in game form it would still be pretty cool. But I was not prepared to love it so much. It is all I hoped for and more. The art and the story sit just on the edge between whimsical and creepy, scary without taking itself too seriously. The dialogues are rich and well-written, and not a single line feels like filler. The art is, as I expected, really, really good. The story is getting interesting, with new threads opening continuously and dragging me in. And on top of that the soundtrack: I've practically been listening to it on a loop since I finished episode 1.
