Game art, style and acting is all very good, especially for an indie. Ultimately though it's just a heavily scripted 'choose your own adventure' marketed as something else and fluffed up with a bunch of unnecessary filler in the mid-late game. The heavy scripting also means that two playthroughs and you've seen all there is to see, which is a shame because a just a little more flexibility (or procedural generation) it could have been a fairly clever game with plenty of replayability.

Decent game, updated graphics and some tweaked gameplay on the classic formula that makes the original Pirates! from the 1980's still a game worth playing even today. This 2004 updated is however full of little WTF moments where they seem to have taken good ideas from the original games actively tried to make them worse for some reason. Very strange. That dancing minigame for example, one of the most tedious an annoying bits of mandatory grind I've ever done in a game, and this in what's otherwise mainly a free form game. Maybe next time don't let Terry from marketing do your gameplay designs eh?
