I ll keep it short so: +Nice graphics +Full Dub with high quality +Feels real enough in zero-g and on the moon, +Different gameplays (no-g, rushing for air, driving,...) +About 5 hours and doesnt overstay it's welcome +Some secondary plots are nice and can even feel touching at times +Atmosphere of some places really hits the mark -Main plot feels a bit non-sensical on some keypoints and never felt interesting to me -Gameplay loops become easily to spot after 1 or 2 times and break immersion -Some puzzle and platforming really make you feel like you are playing a game, not discovering a story -No remapping of the keys which is not that much of an issue BUT... --No option to change the mouse speed and that is really a major pain in the ass throughout the game: You will feel like you are strugling in syrup when you want to check your surrounding which doesnt give any motivation to explore the environment. Found a post by the developers on steam to turn off the mouse smoothing and thanks god for that or i d have stopped after the first 10 minutes... but even then it remained way crappier than any PC game have any right to be. --QTE that may outright kill you and send you back to re watch the same 30 seconds video... why? So yeah 5/10 do not buy over 10€ and ideally get it at 5 if it ever gets there I followed a friend advice when I bought it and I can say that I won't be recommanding it to any of my friends.
I tried the game thinking "if it's not grat I uninstall it after 5 mins and that's it". I finished a very nice metroidvania with a dynamic gameplay around 2 hours later. What really made me love the time I was having are two simple elments: 1. Impressive level design that puts everything but the tutorial on 1 big screen, allowing you to find the hidden passages if you think for a bit while keeping the backtracking parts to a minimum. You won't have to come back to the beginning of the game to unlock a secret area with the last item which can be tedious in some games of the genre (i.e Axiom Verge 2). 2. Power ups and item the game let you use pretty much whenever you want. You keep dying on a specific section fire up your pistol way more, there are ammos all over the place. You can save the coin? Then by all means do buy the powerups, some can really change the feeling of the game. I think waht I try to express here is that items make you feel much more powerful and free, not just by killing ennemies in less hits but by dealing with traps and ennemies more and more as you like. So basically it a fun game that would deserve it's 5 stars if it was around 5€ but for some reason the devs decided to make it free... Well time for me to go see their other games. PS: In case you are afraid the story is o,ly for fans of the show or smthg, I didn't know it existed until this morning and the game is not trying to deliver a complex plot here more akin to "kill the baddies"
Don't know how the final game will be but this demo really didn't convince me at all. The game is pretty good looking and has a music that fits the graphics but that's about it: It looks good and it sounds good. The game itself consist of floating on bubbles that you can produce at specific points, but this is used to follow an incredibly linear path on which you are guided by your... followers? There is no room for different path, exploration or any kind of creativity, you are on a slow roller coaster. That's it I intended to put 2 stars but the dvs putting a demo to let player check if that's their kind of game is smthg to reward. Oh and speaking of the demo, it's pretty light and you can finish it in about 20 min. so by all means do try it, maybe you can enjoy what I couldn't
I really liked this game, I finished it 2 or 3 months ago and I still remeber it's mood almost daily. This mood reminded me of thekind of dull despair I felt in dark souls when I first played it years ago. Of course the gameplay is very different here, the game is more of a platformer with some (simple and good) combat mechanics. And it's not the level design that reminds me of the souls series, here you have to access different islands in a fairly linear way to upgrade your HQ and unlock other parts of the map. As in dark souls I could almost believe I was passing through lands and ruins filled with history. I know I have mentionned the souls quite a bit here and that's because I ve played my faire share of souls like games and seen countless game try to be vague and elusive in just the way DS had managed and fail... But here is a game that doesn't even seem like it tried, that doesn't feel like it's trying to walk in a legend's footsteps but managed to keep a part of my mind in just the same way. And without efforts I found myself playing this game t the end, watching a story of legend unfold in front of my eyes. You already understood that I am not especially objective about the game, if I was I could probably remember a default or another and I d probably give it 4 stars instead of 5. But in this review I am not trying to explain mechanics, gameplay or graphics. I just wanted to say (in a very long way as my thoughts were not so clear before I started writting) that this game touched me and keeps me dreaming, and tha t I hope it can do the same for you
So I just finished every quests of the game today and the game is still in development as I write this review. + The universe is a unique post apocalyptic world that I never saw anywhere else + The statistics and skill system that is very simple, almost minimalistic + The possibility to respec your skills and stats for cheap and avoid being stuck in a single playstyle + Didn't try it but there seems to be a local Co-op + Combat system that is fairly simple but got me just interested enough with different abilities and the use of stealth + Some weapons that made me smile and got me excited when i first got them (i.e the claws and the flamethrower) + Some good ideas to avoid wasting time back tracking (speeding the map movement, being able to click on the local map to let the character get where we want, pillars thattransports you to different parts of a city once activated,...) + Simple and interesting crafting that doesnt require skill points, that's clearly personnal but if i have to put points in crafting rather than melee, hacking or lockpicking in a game... chances are good I'll never craft a single item throughout the entire game. Here it's simple, disassemble stuff and keep parts, find recipe, craft what you need, enjoy. + I know I started with it but really the universe and, by extenssion, the graphics of this game are a mindfuck and a joy. - NOT FALLOUT! everything is much more simple and hence combat, dialogues and skills really offer less freedom. Skills such as mechanics only serve to open machines to loot their parts. - Dialogues feel like every choice will lead to the same conclusion, and people usually don't have much to say outside of the main quest - Inventory management you have recycle a lot to get some place and no personnal storage to keep some armors/helmets In short, a simple & incredible post apo game that is not yet finished. If you are looking for tactics or an heir to fallout 1 & 2 maybe try playing Underrail instead. Otherwise have fun!
Okay so first the bad points: - The game has a kind slow pace for moving the mouse cursor which means that if you play with a mouse it will feel like a hald second too long bfore pointing in the right direction and no options to change the cursor speed. - As someone mentioned in theses comments, you do not properly aim at the ennemy, instead you lock on an ennemy and shoot it after, even with aim assistance set to 0 - The camera can never be turned which is not incredibly frustrating except when an ennemy is stuck near cover and that you cannot see the visual confirmation that you locked on him ending up wasting bullets until you touch him. - The game is always indoor, just rooms followed by corridors followed by rooms... The only game that got me a similar feeling of light claustrophobia was vagrant story. It especially made e feel unconfortable in area that should be wider and feel like open spaces, it's ok to feel stuck in the mines, much less in the farmlands. - Even if it's really cool to hear Ron Perlman it's almost only to hear him saying shallow lines that try (and fail) to set a mood. Would still have been a positive point if the marketing of the game had not pushed that point forward. So to summerize the bad, it really feels like a game made to be adapted on as many platforms as possible and it shows in the gameplay as well as in the menus and options, what's more is that feeling that it was marketed better than it was coded. But on the bright side: + Very nice art style that reminds me of Mike Mignola's style. + The character design of Mason which is cool. + The different gameplay of each weapons + The feeling of joy when you barely evade an ennemy ullets and get behind cover to reload your guns. + After an hour or so you get an ability that really reduce the back tracking time and thanks god otherwise I would have stopped playing this game really fast. So yeah the game is still fairly entetaining but I would really not recommend it above 10€
So I first downloaded this game from the net to test it out. It kept crashing after 10-60 minutes of play but it was good enough for me to keep playing it. The game feels a bit like an early 2000's tps with a smoother gameplay and a cool atmosphere. Thus I decided to buy it on gog despite the bugs. This version had the same issues and i had to start over but that was fine by me until i had 1 terrible idea. I decided to update my drivers thinking that it may fix my crash issue... and thus have been unable to play control for 10 days and counting.... So to keep it short: 1 Game is good (4 stars) 2 Bugs are to be expected (-1 star) 3 Create a safe point of your system before updating drivers (that one is on me)
