I've never played a game that felt more like AI created it. Even though I'm sure a team of people actually made this game, this has some of the worst writing, uncanny voice acting, and one of the stupidest and most overly melodramatic stories I've experienced in a game in a long time. That said, the gameplay is good, it controls great, and there is a great assortment of weapons, even if it's overly unforgiving with some horrible balancing during certain fights, even on normal. Overall. its a fun shooter that just barely doesnt overstay its welcome, wrapped in an asinine story, with an amazing art design if you're in to Lovecraft. If your in the market for a tough as nails FPS with a really nice art style, this is worth a shot for 15 bucks or less.
I started out for the first few hours loving this game. The aesthetics, the mystery, the intriguing premise all were really doing it for me. The longer i played, and got used to the game play loop, and started understanding what the game wanted out of me, however, the luster began to fade pretty quick. Something about this game feels less like a game that requires anything out of you, and more like a slot machine or braindead rng collectathon. The entire gameplay loop amounts to nothing as you waste your time collecting this to upgrade that so you can get the next level fish or item, but none of it requires thought or skill. Youre just going to an area on the map, getting something, and bringing it back to the right spot to recieve a new item that helps you do the exact same thing just in a new area. I really wanted to like this game, and you might if you want a braindead timesink with zero friction. The only even remotely challenging aspect was the red fish in Devils Spine... which arent even a fun challenge, just a hindrance to completing your thoughtless task of collecting things. Glad i got it for free and didnt pay for it.
