1) Realize your controller must be paired prior to launching the game. 2) If you get to one of those gameplay crash glitches - before restoring a previous save state, close the game and open in windowed "no fullscreen" mode. The game won't crash, and you can save later on, repeat to resume full screen. Many more non game breaking bugs, but I think it all amounts to a charming dumpster fire
