Anvil of Dawn

Fantastic Game with Great Atmosphere

Anvil of Dawn has an impressive storyline following one of different heroes that are chosen to teleport between enemy lines and stop an evil warlord. Each character has different stats, but you can customize your character as well. The ones you don't choose still go forward and have their own story as you encounter them out in the world and in the dungeons. The dungeons are a simple grid-based first-person experience. Each dungeon area has a different look, including different enemies (with some repeats). They range from the standard caves and old keeps to haunted graveyards and inside giant trees. Enemies each behave differently with some being aggressive and others being more defensive spell casters. There are a scattering of colorful NPCs to meet as well, which add much color to the world, all with voiced lines. There are various puzzles , riddles, and keys that open doors to progress or treasure, including equipment, consumables and magic. As many other reviewers mentioned, rolling boulders are a common puzzle mechanic. Sometimes the boulders roll down corridors to block your way and provide a hazard, in others they trigger pressure plates to add timing elements to puzzles. Invisible and illusory walls are a thing as well. The magic system in Anvil of Dawn is a typical MP system, but spells are cast by drawing magic runes in the air. You don't have to draw these runes yourself, but the animations are a nice touch and makes the spells feel more alive. Inventory management is left to the player, for better or worse. You're limited only by your carry weight, and can manage your items as you see fit. You find a few containers, such as sacks and small chests that you can use to organize your items and even drop them for later retrieval if you don't want to lug them around.
