Let me just scoff at reviewers who complained about a locomotive/sailboat game being SLOW. The puzzles are the meat of the game, and were fun to figure out. Nothing was exoteric. Just using the tools available. I enjoyed the music and the visual style of the game. The locomotive part of the game is also fun, although not very deep. More importantly, it does not outstay its welcome.

Originally when I played this, I thought OG Quake was way better. However, it is on par and well worth playing. Partly this is due to the remaster restoring music, a big part of the atmosphere. And partly due to the new compass, tells you where you are supposed to go. But only when you ask for it. Brilliant job Nightdive, and obviously ID software.

I can not believe I was unaware of this when it released. Maybe they ran out of budget for advertising the game, because a lot of money was clearly spent on development. Anyway, I played it for the first time in 2024 and it holds up beautifully to any Windows 7 era game I have played. It looks beautiful at high refresh rates and resolutions. The pacing is PERFECT. The sound is PERFECT. The challenge is what you would expect for a game of the era - pretty easy if you use the tools available, except for a couple of spikes. Gameplay wise, it is a mix of Halo and God Of War, with the power of the latter and the emotinality of the former, which is most excellente. If you experience crashes, you might want to use Task Manager to set affinity to 2 cores. It worked for me.
