Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition

Still a masterpiece!

It is true. The enhanced edition of Torment is not bringing any new content to the table beside the interface improvements and the convenient package. Still, I ask myself the following: Should it? I don't want to go into specific details about the graphical or stability improvements of the Enhanced Edition. You will probably find better-written reviews on this matter. Instead, I want to share some thought about why I tink it still worths your attention. This game beyond any doubt is a proven masterpiece which has stood the test of time. It is really sad for me to see that some people complain about the existence of this newly reissued version of it. Some say the lack of new content doesn't justify the effort and the higher price of the EE as the same functionalities could have been reached with free fan made mods downloaded on the internet. I could argue that the same people would have complained even if such improvements existed. In this regard how can the Enhanced Edition be a disaster when compared to the Original one if they are both exactly the same in any meaningful way. Well, they differed by price. It seems to me that some people felt for the wrong reasons that the sanctity of keeping the original version intact and available at a low price has somehow been broken. As if it is unheard of for the legal owners of the game to decide what they can do or not do with it. For me, things really boil down to this. The reasons for which the Enhanced Edition receives some undeserved negative scores are exactly the reasons for which I celebrate it!!! Yes, think of it. Even 18 years after "Planscape Torment" has been published it is still a game which is relevant and still matters. A game which easily escaped a fate of obscurity and oblivion, a game which is worth paying for and a game which can still compete in this age of gaming! I think it is unfair to say that "Planescape Torment" has not deserved to be reissued and introduced to a whole new generation of gamers in this more convenient package. Players, many of whom mind you would have otherwise not bothered to search for a way to patch its original version and appreciate it for its core values. "Planescape Torment" is an excellent game as ever before and this new version of it will most certainly make it endure for a lot more years to come. I can not spare my praises for this title and I recommend it strongly to anyone!
