My advice to anyone that buys this as a newcomer (like I was) is to buy BG2 right away and install EasyTutu or BGT. I tried playing it "vanilla" but the BG2 engine is just so much better!
Didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the first one, but it is just as high quality, if not even better!
From the little bit I've played, the Director's cut probably wouldn't be worth it by itself. But! The purchase comes with the original game, which is ScummVM compatible, so I can play it anywhere. And the original game is amazing! I didn't think I'd like it too much because I'm not a huge adventure games fan anymore, but wow!
Only just got around to playing his after hearing about it for years. Definitely ranks among my top 10 adventure games for story and gameplay. Art is also fantastic, as is voice acting. I'd also highly recommend using James Woodcock's enhanced soundtrack with ScummVM. It is pretty short though.
