In this episode Croteam pushed against the boundaries of its engine, and it shows. There are puzzles, and funky gravitiy, and air currents, and other stuff that's increase the "wow!" factor but detract from the inherent Samness one'd expect from the series. Too many bits of the game seem to be an engine showoff rather than something to make Serious Sam more serious. The boss is also pretty forgettable and disappointing (what leads to it... not as much): Even with sprinting, aiming and reloading, SS3 provides a purer experience than this title.
