TLDR - Nice visuals. - Bland story. - Awful puzzles. I am not the biggest fan of these types of games, but this one is by far the worst I have played. I remember reading about this game in a gaming magazine a long time ago and being very impressed with the visuals of the third game as well. So, I finally decided to take a look into the Runaway games. First impressions were not good since the game would not start. I had to run some .exe file from the game folder to launch it, which wasn't a big deal, but still inconvenient. - Visuals The visuals, including the backgrounds and characters, are pleasing to look at and have aged quite well. - Story The story is kind of generic. You are on your way to your new university but you hit a girl with your car. You drive her to the hospital, where she tells you that the mafia is after her because she has some important item that leads to threats. So, you help her. It's nothing groundbreaking. The main character tries to act like a saint but constantly does illegal things while saying, "they won't mind" or "I'll return it later." I guess the story has to progress, but this makes the character quite unappealing. - Gameplay You have to think way outside the box to solve some of the puzzles. Some puzzles visually don't make sense, like trying to get a barrel covered by some junk. The junk in question is a cardboard box, which I would assume is too heavy to be moved. Other puzzles don't make logical sense. At one point, you need to melt some butter. I won't spoil how to melt it, but I will say that you are in a desert, so there shouldn't be a problem melting butter in the desert. Or making functional bullets with just gunpowder and lipstick. Also, the character will refuse to pick up some items until the game decides you need to pick them up. There are also many items that are small and blend well with the background, so you better scan the whole screen with your mouse if you don't want to miss something.
The game is in version 1.0.0 and it runs in German for some reason. The Atari logo still shows up at the beginning even though Atari is no longer the publisher. No higher resolutions options. Missing DLC level. Nothing has been done at all to the game.
