Amnesia: Rebirth

Just OK

The gameplay is constantly being interrupted by story segments or dialogue. At times, it felt more like I was playing a walking simulator. As for the story, it was broken up so much that it made the plot harder to follow and I think that ultimately hurt the experience the most. The environment can be creepy in places but the monsters are really just annoying. You don't spend a whole lot of the game hiding from the creatures, except during a short segment at the very end. Most of the time you're forced to run from them, flying through room after room and feeling like you're missing the opportunity to pick up needed supplies (matches and lantern oil). The puzzles range from obvious but tedious, to extremely vague and also tedious. Some are so cryptic that I was forced to look up the answer. Eventually I got to the point where all I wanted to do was move forward with the game so when I'd get to the next puzzle I'd just google the solution right away. Overall, I think the game was worth playing if you can get it on sale, but it is definitely nowhere near as good as the original Amnesia, Penumbra or Soma.
