Still an amazing experience 25 years later. In the 90s I was an avid C&C player, a fanatic. I refused to admit that there was a better game than the C&C series. Red alert was so perfect. Then I tried TA and I hated it. The game was too ahead for its time but I didn't know that back then. I played it again in 2012 and this is when I discovered that this game is a marvel of tactics and strategy. TA is an exceptional experience. The setting is futuristic, you start with a main construction bot which is your commander. This unit should never be destroyed or you lose the game. This commander is extremely powerful and can construct level 1 civilian buildings (Generators and metal harvesters) as well as military buildings (air, sea and ground). From the latter buildings, you can construct other construction bots that build much slower than the commander but have better options, then level 2 bot and so on. The end result is dozens of units and buildings and defenses that are all useful in a particular situation. Some games in later single player campaign can last 5 to 6 hours (you can save) and are a tactical warfare where you battle for each hill and each corner of the map. The enemy will build thousands of unit continuously to try to win the war and the skirmishes on the battleground are epic. you have to combine effectively, air sea and ground units backed by powerful canons and laser defenses that can reach the end of the map to win a game in hard difficulty. In the end, TA still is one of the most fun in rts I ever had. There is nothing comparable in the genre (The main developer of the game later created the supreme commander games which are amazing)
