Toonstruck

A great adventure, among the classics

** For a design analysis of the game, you may see here http://www.dionous.com/design-notebook/toonstruck ** I wanted to play this game for many years and i recently had the chance. What i enjoyed: The graphics, the animations, most of the puzzles and puzzle design (generally the puzzles are nicely integrated, imaginative and not illogical); christopher Lloyd's performance (just love this guy!). What i didn't enjoy so much: The humor sometimes seems inconsistent with the setting as it is focused on sexual innuendos, mainly by Flux Wildly (definitely an adult game). The music score was not so original, although i enjoyed the Nefarious Castle's music; sweet and cute stories are not my cup of tea also. Overall, a great effort which is enjoyable to experience, recommended to all adventure players.

Runaway: A Road Adventure

A good adventure game, but not perfect.

Have played this game in many years after its release and i can say i was charmed by its graphic and in-game animation (not the cutscenes animation, characters look a bit weird and spoouky there!) Puzzle design is generally good and some puzzles are really satisfying to solve, however you will still find pixel hunting, a couple of obscure solutions (getting the wrench out of the trough in Douglasville is nuts), repeated tedious actions (filling the train water tank in Douglasville for example). It is also interesting to point out the games characteristic of not letting you picking up stuff unless you know you need them, which is in contrast with classic adventure style which is picking up everything. This is not necessarily bad and seems to work, however is some instances this is implemented poorly with limited hints to the player. The duration of the game is not bad, could be longer but i was happy enough. Spoken dialoges and the music are ok. Despite its small flaws, i'd recommend the game.

A Golden Wake

Uninteresting Story

When i checked this game, i thought it would be interesting so i gave it a shot to see where it would lead. I finished the game the day after, and i can now say it doesn't add anything to genre. Graphics: Ok for a pixelated adventure. Animations could be smoother. Puzzles: Easy ones and not many. The game is quite linear, dull challenges for a seasoned adventure gamer. Story / Plot: The worst part of the game. I really can't figure out how Wadjeteye produced a game based on a totally local story which i really don't know if it even interests any American (i'm European and i could care less to be honest for the Coral Gables). Characters are boring, there is not a clear scope/goal for the main character, also the ending is totally unrewarding. Music : Good in general, fits to the game. Voice Act: Very good, the best part of the games, the actors are doing the job nicely. In general, it is a game that won't be remembered, and my bet is you won't play it more than once.
