imagine what a cool wild west story of a bunch of misfits would be, and how you might navigate them through a beautiful scenario. now imagine it as a puzzle to solve, in which you have freedom to solve it in the way you like. Starts slow, but the possibilities become enormous very soon.
To make it clear: This game has one of the most entertaining story presentations I have ever experienced in a shooter. You play from the retrospective of an old gunslinger, who debates and revokes his memories with an audience, a bit like in the Action RPG Bastion. AND IT IS PERFECT! I had to smile a lot and wonder why so few games use a storytelling device like that. The pacing of this game is nice, sometimes you have time to explore, sometimes theres an action packed sequence, often by surprise, and some tense cover shootouts, few times waves of enemies closing in. The latter become more towards the game's final chapters, but are also used as a way to show how overexaggerated the gunslinger remembers his adventures, even facing the ghosts of dead outlaw legends at times. You get almost Spec Ops The Line vibes through it, questioning the kills you made, the amount of dead bodies you leave behind. As the gunslinger and as the player. Everyone should finish the short yet very beautiful gem of an early modern shooter.
To make it short: The more grounded and satirical approach of a fish out of water Larry works out for me. It is a bit less dirty, than for instance "Love for Sail", also the small game has less clickable stuff in the world on which Larry comments. But once the game takes up the pace - which could be a bit earlier, I think - theres quite a bit sexy fun to watch and quite some modern clichés presented. The game's difficulty varies, sometimes I really had to think, sometimes guess, sometimes I knew the solutions right away. Maybe it is because Im in my early thirties, a nerd who got the references, and that is why it clicks with me, but I totally enjoyed laying my fingers on that little slippery thing. I hope the young small german studio makes a buck and go down on more larry.
Honest, ask me Mum! Actually it is an okay and entertaining game. Give it a try... It never can be so boring that like 82 people don't want it! We are talking in internet terms. Where like thousands are watching!!! Give it a try twelve bucks is not much. I sacrificed too!
