The spine of the world is a cold unforgiving place. This is what you will learn when you trudge through this awesome game. It's not for everyone. It is super challenging, expect to die, and die alot. Icewind Dale harkens back to the pen and paper RPG's of old, where most of the fun was by way of your imagination. There isn't much story here, but the combat is very challenging and rewarding. You can design any kind of part imaginable, just be sure to make them balanced, because you are in for the fight of your life. I played this game while I was in high school, staying up til 2-3 AM in the morning, telling myself, just until I get to the next room, then I will quit. The combat is what makes the game. By the time you reach a level where you conquer everything in the dungeon you are currently exploring, and are able to best the boss at the end of the dungeon, you are whisked away to a new set of beatings, challenges, and triumphs. The art direction, dungeon layouts, ambient sound affects, and soundtrack are just plain amazing. The music will just chill you to the bone, perfect for the setting. In a nutshell: Not for the faint of heart. If you can master this game, Baldur's Gate would be a cakewalk in comparison. Definitely one to experience if you are a fan of the series. I just bought a boxed set of both after losing the copies I had in high school. I bought them twice. I guess I am a glutton for punishment.

I just want to say that I have never tried Planescape Torment. I know, I know, I am a lousy PC gamer. As of this moment, I am purchasing the game from GOG. I missed the wagon back when this came out, and have been waiting for GOG to release it. Thanks GOG, glad you're not dead. Keep 'em coming.
