Tower Hunter: Erza's Trial

A Short Comedic Castlevania Love Letter

This is a short, great comedic Castlevania clone that is light on story and gets progressively more brutal on each level and each difficulty increase. The moves are a bit hard to pull off on higher difficulties since they either leave you open or some take time to perform, but this is a solid game if you're a fan of the genre. Just steer clear if you're not a fan of the genre or are looking for a lengthy story filled game.

The music is now actually now FLAC, it got corrected in a game update not too long ago. Highly recommended.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

Symphony of the Night/Order of Ecclesia

Made by the same producer that made Castlevania Symphony of the NIght and Order of Ecclesia, this is a new mythos with a mixture mechanics of both in 2.5D environment. Much like those two games, the hints are few, and the exploring can be punishingly hard if you are used to modern hints, so be advised. Otherwise this runs great, has great sounds and colorful visuals. Just be warned that it's an exploration heavy action/RPG, and the best items require completing quests and item hunting, so if that's not your cup of tea, try before buying.

Frostpunk

A brutal survival city builder

Big picture first: This game is an amazing undertaking for a small studio, and if you're into games like Tropico, well... this is on the other end of the spectrum, with a dystopian, wintery setting and much less funny things. That being said, this games is gorgeous and it has really great stories, that are really hard, due to what is the sole issue I find with it: The learning cure is insanely hard. The game has some interactive tutorials and prompts you to do certain things, however, it will be about your 3rd or 4th play attempt until you actually start to get your feet wet into all that this game offers and the planning for the cold. It's a buy for anyone that likes the genre and would love a dystopian twist to it. Anyone else, see some videos of it and be wary, this game is hard.

Tacoma

An interactive digital forensics game

If you're into active/action games and not into reading/investigating as the main thing in a game, steer away from playing/purchasing this. That being said, if you do like the genre, this is a really nice game. The only warning I will give is that the game was done as mainly a non-people game, the only actual person in the game is you, the main protagonist. The game has great graphics and details, and adding actual people to the game would have taken a huge budget and it would have taken forever to develop through motion capture and programming. I loved the ending, and I really suggest you take your time with the game, since the ending was a really nice surprise, with very, very well hidden hints throughout the game about the direction it would take. And again, this is more of a games as art game than an actual action or adventure game.

Event[0]

A throwback to HAL

I had not heard about this game anywhere, but I found out about it during the release of Tacoma. This game hits all my sci-fi feels for older movies with Artificial Intelligence. It reminds me of The Turing Test, if it was based on investigation instead of platforming puzzles. I really recommend this game, and please, use headphones, the mood sounds and audio of this game is amazing. The only thing that was a big spotty was the control scheme, since you move forward and back with the mouse buttons, but you get used to it.
