I absolutely loved this game when it first launched. The first one was cool but it never really clicked with me. Unfortunately, the first content addition added district-level heating management. Not only is the new system painfully tedious, it also requires building the districts in the exact same layout every time just to heat the districts adequately. Building the same every time is just boring, and makes the game not fun at all. I haven't played since the update, and unless they remove the new heat system (or at least remove the need for the specific layout) I won't be coming back to it.
I originally only tried this because it's on Game Pass, but eventually paid for it on GOG because it's just that good. I normally wouldn't bother with an indie game with cartoony graphics, but for whatever reason I tried this out and was immediately hooked. The game is incredibly complex, probably the most complex I've ever played, but in the beginning you can just ignore most of the functions of the game. Then you slowly start factoring more and more as you play. Even if you play the same biome, the game plays differently every single time. There's no universal strategy that you can take. I still occasionally fail, and not because of playing a higher difficulty. There's just so many factors that sometimes you just make the wrong call and end up cornered. It's also enjoyable because there are always things to tweak, so you're never just sitting waiting for time to pass. Just be careful playing on fast speed until you're VERY used to the game, because it can screw you very quickly.
