Dawn of the Monsters

The Best Pacific Rim Game Ever!

Reveiw based on Version 1.1.10 and from a player who is new to the beat'em up genre and who loves monster movies. This game is certainly a love letter to the giant monster genre including Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, and most importantly Pacific Rim. The opening animation makes me want a cartoon series. The rest of the art is heavily based on comic book and manga. I love the combat as they all pack a massive punch. I kinda would like to have a way to interupt my attacks with my dodging and blocking though. There is also no endless mode and any replayablity is nonexistant. As for the plot, it's basically Pacific Rim and Pacific Rim Uprising combined. It's fine and I love the charaters though I would've liked more charaterization from the younger protagonists and not have the human antagonist be generic. One downside I do have is the soundtrack which sounds more like generic movie trailer music with the execption of the final boss battle. Overall, It is a fun game and you should play it. I can't wait for the DLC coming in 2023!

The gameplay on the other hand is fantastic as your not just killing everyone in sight but also branding them and having them join your casue. There is no final boss fight with the Dark Lord in the main story so spoiler. I love it.

Captain Malashenko is the most well rounded character. The American storyline is hit or miss with off the wall moments (like the Soviets taking Fort Teller won't just result in M.A.D.) and the insufferable Captain Bannon (thank you, next). Gameplay is basically Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 without the base building. I like it.
