I usually don't buy early access but I'm very glad that I bought this in early access. The developer is working solo on this but he seems very switched on and capable of delivering this game. I spent the weekend playing the game and thoroughly enjoyed it. There are better city builders out there, but this one is very satisfying. It's simple enough to be able to get stuff down and complicated enough that you feel you can do better and tweak stuff. The medieval village I built strongly reminds me of what I built in Medieval Dynasty and although I know zero about medieval life it felt authentic to me. The graphics are really good and I believe that there are some glitches on some systems but on my machine they worked perfectly. The developer is responding to bug reports on Discord and has hired a professional QA company to assist with that. I really hope this game gets finished - it's going to be awesome.
I've sunk many hours into this game and am thoroughly enjoying it. There are some cool story quests and a main quest line that keep you running and exploring stuff. I've really enjoyed the crafting and building aspect and I've often found myself sinking an unplanned hour into the game because I want to "just finish this one upgrade". I don't think you will enjoy it if you're looking for combat or "defend the tower" because nobody attacks your settlement. What really stands out for me is the exploring, beautiful scenery, crafting, building, and city building. I'm eagerly awaiting the new one they're busy on.
I sunk six hours of my Sunday into this game because I needed to "just finish this thing". I was surprised at how good this game is - I wouldn't expect the blend of FPS and strategy to mix as well as this. The FPS is satisfying - not insanely difficult but definitely enough to keep you on your toes. Plus you get to upgrade your pew pew pew from what your enemies drop. The base building is great. I'm still on my first run of the game so I've made lots of mistakes in building my ship. I thought I was applying some common sense but on my second run I'm definitely going to do it a bit differently. The game has a nice difficulty curve. It is roguelike so in my galaxy seed I started off fairly close to some difficult content. So instead of going to the closest galaxy I hightailed it off to the "south" where stuff was easier. Definitely worth trying out - I'm really hoping for more DLC or a sequel or something. But in the meantime I'll just keep exploring.
This is a very enjoyable simple game for casual play. It's still in development so I can see that some of the difficulty tuning needs to be done, even in normal difficulty it still feels like a sandbox. I was looking for something that I could play at the end of the day after work and this is a great game for that.
The game is an interesting balancing act that requires thoughtful application of changes. The cause and effect network makes sorting out longer term goals quite fun. The game was surprisingly easy to pick up. I lost my first game hopelessly but got the hang of it second time around. I didn't read the manual and found that the tutorial was enough to get a grip. I also liked that the tutorial didn't labour on and on, but just pointed out the key stuff and then handed control back.
I've actually bought this game three times to replace stolen copies. I know I have the CD somewhere but having digital download is awesome. Why do I keep buying it whenever I see it? Simply because of the Tycoon games out there it's both fun and the difficulty level increases at a predictable rate. The payoff of extra difficulty is in getting new kit to outfit your hospital. So the game design is superb. Plus also the bonus rat hunt game is more fun than it should be :)
